Imported into HF on November 22nd, 2002, Cody James was the first stallion owner, Kaitlyn, when she owned Shores Stables before buying a new farm and naming it The Matuchie Estate. This beautiful 1998 Thoroughbred Chestnut stallion competed in one flat race in HF and finished first in Melissa's TRA Winter Races. From there Cody James went on to share competition in both Steeplechasing and Eventing where he sometimes competed in individual events of Show Jumping, Dressage, and Cross Country to strengthen his ability in individual sports, and he quickly moved up Advanced Eventing. He spent the majority of his time in Preliminary eventing as well as Steeplechasing.
As far as companion, this animal is two separate horses in one body, and he is one of the smartest animals I've ever known. While he's preparing for a competition or out competing he is focused, ripped, and ready. He doesn't care anything about what mares walk past. But while he's being ridden "for fun" and not obvoiusly being trained you've really got to get someone who knows what they're doing on him. He cares about every mare that walks by, though he's not rough, and he's very testy. If he can get by with something, he will definatly try.
Might I also add he placed 2nd in the Grand Natoinal Steeplechase of 2005.
Affirmed, Cody’s paternal grandsire, won the Thoroughbred Triple Crown in 1978 after only ten previous Triple Crown wins from other horses, and as of 2006, he continued to reside as the last triple crown winner. Yet, as magnificent of an accomplishment as that stood alone, later in 1978 he brought home to his residence at Harbor View Farm the Horse of the Year Eclipse Award, which he attained for a second time in 1978. Affirmed’s continued success also included the title of him being the first horse in North America to receive over two million dollars in wins. His honors attained him election into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame. As a sire, Affirmed sired nine champions and eighty stakes winners including the Canadian Triple Crown winner Peteski and a multiple grade one turf grass winner, Flawlessly.
Cody’s amazing lineage continues as further back Equipoise lies in the pedigree. He is quite a bit less known than Raise a Native who lies on Affirmed’s paternal side. Equipoise lies on Affirmed’s dam lineage yet shouldn’t ever be forgotten nor ignored. In 1930, as a two year old, he won the Pimlico Futurity, but a crack in his hoof made his two-year-old season short, and limited his three-year-old season quite much. However, he made an amazing return at four, setting the world record for the mile at the Arlington Park, winning several other stakes races as well. Though he died at ten years old, he was voted United States Horse of the Year in 1932 and 1933, and the United States Champion Older Male Horse in thirty-two, thirty-three, and thirty-four. Additionally, as a sire, his son Shut Out won the 1942 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes.
Traveling far enough back on Cody’s dam’s side sits us at the feet of Nasrullah, a British sire and racehorse, as well as the sire of fifteen champions. He won many British races including the Great Bradley Stakes, the Coventry Stakes, and the Champion Stakes. At ten years old, he was sent to Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, United States where he stood, and sired three US Hall of Fame Horses including Nashua, Noor, and Bold Ruler, in addition to be Secretariat’s grandsire.
